ABSTRACT

The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has become a leading societal concern. eHealth literacy is important in the prevention and control of this pandemic. The purpose of this study is to identify eHealth literacy of Chinese residents about the COVID-19 pandemic and factors influencing eHealth literacy. A total of 15 694 individuals clicked on the link to the questionnaire, and 15 000 agreed to participate and completed the questionnaire for a response rate of 95.58%. Descriptive statistics, χ2 test, and logistic regression analysis were conducted to analyze participants' level of eHealth literacy about COVID-19 and its influencing factors. The results showed 52.2% of participants had relatively lower eHealth literacy regarding COVID-19 (eHealth literacy score ≤ 48). The scores of the information judgment dimension (3.09 ± 0.71) and information utilization dimension (3.18 ± 0.67) of the eHealth literacy scale were relatively lower. The logistics regression showed that sex, age, education level, level of uncertainty, having people around the respondent diagnosed with COVID-19, relationship with family, and relationship with others were associated to eHealth literacy (χ2 = 969.135, P < .001). The public's eHealth literacy about COVID-19 needs to be improved, especially the ability to judge and utilize online information. Close collaboration among global health agencies, governments, healthcare institutions, and media is needed to provide reliable online information to the public. Interventions to improve eHealth literacy should take into account and accentuate the importance of sex, age, educational background, level of uncertainty, exposure to disease, and social support.

ABSTRACT

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), a disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), is currently spreading rapidly around the world. Since SARS-CoV-2 seriously threatens human life and health as well as the development of the world economy, it is very urgent to identify effective drugs against this virus. However, traditional methods to develop new drugs are costly and time-consuming, which makes drug repositioning a promising exploration direction for this purpose. In this study, we collected known antiviral drugs to form five virus-drug association datasets, and then explored drug repositioning for SARS-CoV-2 by Gaussian kernel similarity bilinear matrix factorization (VDA-GKSBMF). By the 5-fold cross-validation, we found that VDA-GKSBMF has an area under curve (AUC) value of 0.8851, 0.8594, 0.8807, 0.8824, and 0.8804, respectively, on the five datasets, which are higher than those of other state-of-art algorithms in four datasets. Based on known virus-drug association data, we used VDA-GKSBMF to prioritize the top-k candidate antiviral drugs that are most likely to be effective against SARS-CoV-2. We confirmed that the top-10 drugs can be molecularly docked with virus spikes protein/human ACE2 by AutoDock on five datasets. Among them, four antiviral drugs ribavirin, remdesivir, oseltamivir, and zidovudine have been under clinical trials or supported in recent literatures. The results suggest that VDA-GKSBMF is an effective algorithm for identifying potential antiviral drugs against SARS-CoV-2.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Millions of people have died of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) due to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection, and retrospective studies of the disease in local regions are necessary. AIM: To characterize the epidemiological features and dynamic changes in blood biochemical indices for SARS-CoV-2-infected patients in Hebi, a representative city with a large floating population in North China. METHODS: From January 25 to February 10, 2020, the clinical data of patients who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction in Hebi city (China) were evaluated at admission, and laboratory data for hematologic parameters, inflammatory indices, coagulation function indices, liver function indices, blood lipid indices, renal function indices, myocardial enzyme activities and five blood biochemical markers of immunity were evaluated at admission, upon hospitalization and before discharge. RESULTS: Sixteen confirmed COVID-19 patients developed pneumonia but were cured after adequate treatment. Fever and fatigue were the common symptoms. The most common laboratory abnormalities of patients at admission were leukopenia, eosinopenia, decreased percentage of eosinophils, elevated high sensitivity C-reactive protein and fibrinogen levels, hypoalbuminemia, mildly increased aspartate transferase activity and levels of bilirubin, and increased levels of ß2-microglobulin. Importantly, aggravated liver dysfunction was detected in most patients, which may be partially attributed to virus infection as well as medicinal treatment. CONCLUSION: This study provides several potential diagnostic markers and dynamic biochemical indices of disease progression to better prevent, diagnose and treat COVID-19 infection.
